Takasaki Daruma 12 cm – Traditional Japanese Lucky Charm
The Takasaki Daruma is a traditional craft from Gunma Prefecture, the region that produces the largest number of Daruma dolls in Japan. Its rounded shape symbolizes the spirit of “Nanakoro bi Yaoki” — fall down seven times, stand up eight — representing perseverance, determination, and success.
This Daruma is a signature product of Takeuchi Daruma Shop. One of its most distinctive features is the design of the face: the eyebrows are shaped like a crane and the beard like a turtle, both powerful symbols of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture.
Each piece carries a heartfelt wish for happiness and prosperity. Place it in your daily living space as a symbol of your goal. When your wish comes true, fill in the second eye as a gesture of gratitude.
How it's made
Hand-painted Takasaki daruma
Every face is brushed by hand at Takeuchi Daruma Shop, a family workshop in Gunma founded in 1937. The eyebrows are drawn as a crane and the beard as a turtle, both symbols of long life, and the gold around the eyes stands for prosperity. Because the thickness and flow of each stroke shape the expression, no two daruma look quite the same.
